Scottish futuristic jazz producer and Mercury Prize-nominated musician corto.alto continues a stellar streak of magnificent releases that push the boundaries of genres. Inspired by jazz, hip-hop, broken beat, and electronica, what I love about corto.alto the most is the fact that I never know what to expect on the other end of that play button. It keeps me in a healthy suspension.

Following the success of his Mercury Prize-shortlisted Bad With Names (2023), in 2024, Liam set himself the challenge of recording 108 tracks, and 30 of those were released in his 30/108 project. By the way, that release recently won him the UK Jazz Act of the Year and the Innovation Award at the Jazz FM Awards.

Today's spotlight - "32. Dip (108)", is one of those tunes that didn't make the cut, but is now a perfect final bonus track and a way to wrap this project. He elaborates, "This track was the last of the 108 demos I made for this project before beginning the long, tiring but ultimately rewarding process of working on the 30 tracks. It wasn’t included in the 30 singles because I never could figure out how to finish it. I ended up adding a sample of my own track "Bye", the last track on my Mercury Prize shortlisted album Bad With Names, and that felt like the missing piece. To me, "32.Dip (108)" signifies the end of a sonic chapter for me as an artist, and the beginning of something new.

Tight drums that will leave you breathless and a vibe that's both intense and calm make this track truly stand out. Everything that has happened to him so far is absolutely well-deserved, and I can't wait for that next sound chapter for corto.alto.
