"Longing Protocol" is a beauty born out of the rhythmic groundwork laid by DJ Wei, founder of the KL-based indie label mü-nest, a 20-year-old imprint that has steadily garnered attention across Asia and Europe. The talented producer built the track around a rather fixed rhythmic pulse and a delicate, almost mechanical melodic line. I love the fact that the main motif repeats and falters, gradually emerging as the emotional core of the piece. It is a subtle echo of its title and it allows for this kind of endless focus repeat. I ended up having a long work session at the backdrop of this gorgeous instrumental and at the end of the evening I didn't feel tired of it at all. That should mean something.
