Today, we mark the end of the 2-year-long sonic silence from Hiatus Kaiyote and to say I'm excited would be an understatement.
Since the beginning of the month, we've all been patiently following the beautiful digital/real-life breadcrumbs left by the Aussie jazz/funk 4-piece. They shared a cryptic sign-up form a few weeks ago, alongside a few videos on social media, and that was enough to stir the water amongst fans "Everything's Beautiful" (out via BRAINFEEDER) offers a first taste of their upcoming project, and let me tell you - the wait was worth it.
2 minutes and 50 seconds of blissful groove, feel-good energy, and a gateway to better times. Listening to the song is the equivalent of putting them pink glasses. It's so nice to get such a positive message in the middle of winter (at least for us here in Europe).
"Everything’s Beautiful is a testament to the importance of finding simple joy in your day. To me, my happy place is walking around exploring the world with my headphones. I wanted to write something very simple without complex, deep philosophical meaning like most of my writing tends to be.", Nai Palm elaborates in their newsletter. "I wrote the vocal melody and general bass riff in a dream napping on my manager Scott Barkham’s couch in New York one day and brought it into the waking world which is really hard to do for me. Initially, the dream hook was Berry Street beautiful, but I changed the lyrics when I developed it more with the band. It’s not the delusion that we live in a utopia out here on this planet, but rather about actively looking for the beauty, grace and joy in life."
