Amsterdam-based collective ii (pronounced "I and I") have unveiled their incredibly soulful EP 01.01, and the single "follow this" is certainly among the stand-out gems from the project.
Together, they are carving out a distinct reputation for themselves within an incredibly crowded musical landscape with their tasteful brand of "modern soul". The second last track from 01.01, "follow this" borrows from funk, hip-hop, and r&b to create a sound that simultaneously feels nostalgic and refreshing. A stellar rap verse laced with a variety of flows compliments the slick bounce of the drums, and toward the end, we're acquainted with a marvelous brass section for quite a triumphant closing passage.
