I knew who Dinosaur Jr were, but had no idea that their frontman J Mascis was doing something solo. His new album Tied To A Star is out in the end of August and in the meantime he shares some of the tracks off this album.
In the latest released track "Wide Awake" Mascis has teamed up with one of my favourite female vocalists Chan Marshall (Cat Power) and the track turned out to be melancholic and glorious. This acoustic ballad seems to be very simply played keeping the focus on how perfectly the vocals blend together. Even though the track is intended to be sad and melancholic it still gives you a warm aftertaste. There is definitely something soothing about it.
