To be honest, "Rat Race" has passages that don't entirely compliment the track. However the brightest moments of this gem do a great job of overshadowing the questionable parts.
It was particularly the first verse that swiftly grabbed my attention, when all the fx on Jesi's voice fall away and we're just left with his sincere yet raw vocal delivery. This rawness is accentuated by the honesty we're acquainted with in his lyricism throughout the track, and this lyricism is paired with witty penmanship and thought-provoking bars too. I can't neglect to mention the jazzy, heartfelt instrumental which beautifully sets the tone for an introspective listening experience.
