A few days ago, we celebrated Joe Nora's latest EP, Days Ago, which offers a glitchy and nostalgic, yet warm and hopeful glimpse into the ever-evolving sonic universe of the talented LA musician. From dusty instrumentals and alt-hip hop to smooth, sunlit indie R&B, his sound stretches wide, but it always lands in a vibe that’s unmistakably his own. I feel I can pick a Joe Nora track from a mile away, something that makes Joe one of the most appreciated producers in my book.
Released via Friends of Friends, the 8-track release is a journey self-described as a "cassette left in the sun-warped, wistful, and beautifully bleary." Couldn't agree more. One of the focus tracks on Days Ago, "From a Distance" features previous collaborators Criibaby and Surfer Dave, and it sounds like the early hours of those first careless summer holidays where life feels featherless again. The crisp, almost ASMR-like production made me feel so close to the artists, and it helped me build a quick "relationship" with the whole release, which made me appreciate it even more.
