French is the language of...people who live in France but not only. French is the official language of 14 other countries plus French overseas territories like French Guyana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte. Not bad for an (ex) colonial power. I will not go in details about France "glorious" past as an imperial power but for those of you interested in history I recommend the book "Europe and the people without history" by Eric Wolf.
