Madison McFerrin has just unveiled her sophomore album SCORPIO, and one of the brightest gems from her sonic treasury is the musically opulent "I Don't".
Today I found out that this talented woman is not only related to one of my favorite jazz artists, Taylor McFerrin, but she is also the daughter of the iconic Bobby McFerrin. Madison has carved her own lane through a stellar infusion of neo-soul, jazz, hip hop, and bits of electronica throughout SCORPIO. Apart from the incredible instrumentation, I believe "I Don't" is among the cuts with the most gripping songwriting thanks to the unapologetic and raw demeanor we're acquainted with in the lyricism. Bouncy piano arrangements complement this, along with fierce guitars and harmonies that elevate the track's emotional intensity.
