If you've been following the jazz/soul scene, especially in the UK, I'm sure you've been anticipating this day for the past few months.

The London curator/DJ Somewhere Soul has been teasing us for his debut compilation, Rutuals, Vol. 1. The collaborative project had 3 upfront singles - "Murmuring", "Dream of the Contest" & "Morning Light", and it's now time for the full, 20-piece beauty.

One of my fav tunes comes from Manchester keyboardist Matt Wilde & Brooklyn-based Canadian singer Miranda Jones, fusing in itself all the lightness & gorgeousness of jazz & soul. She elaborates:

“Like You is about falling in love. It’s about finding warmth and safety in another person after a period of time that I feared had turned me cold. When I had waded deeply into new waters and when my life had been rapidly changing, it was a gift to find, if only for a time, something solid to stand on; a rock in the middle of the ocean tall enough for my feet to actually reach; a place where I could stand long enough to catch my breath and see the sunlight again. Matt’s piano holds this song and these words so beautifully; in all its warmth. It is a true reflection of the warmth I felt on the perfectly sunny days we spent writing and recording it together in Manchester last summer.”

Rutuals, Vol. 1 also includes names like Blue Lab Beats, edbl, Raelle, Melodiesinfonie, and many more. Get your copy of the double LP here.
