The original track, “Cali High” is by the artist music collective of MTRSS. The track is written by multiple people, namely Ilya Lagutenko, Alexandr Kholenko, Graham Candy, and Derek Ullenboom. The arrangement is done by one of the singers MaKenzie Thomas alongside Chris Lambert. To say the least, this track is truly a collaborative effort and the final product is a hazy, psych-rock sound with bits of electronica and accenting horns.

In his remake of “Cali High,” German DJ Alle Farben gives the track a significantly electronic, progressive house sound. It’s as if you are listening to the after-hours version of the original. Introducing the song, it starts with a solid beat that slowly develops to reach a glitched-out drop. Samples of the original vocals are more pronounced and have dimensional effects that sound entrancing and intricate.

The free-flowing and energetic feel of this rework has got me imagining summer parties by the beach, coupled with chilled house music. What an accurate portrayal of a “Cali High.”
