Hypnotic and groovy, “Demons on my back” feels like visiting a haunted disco in the small hours of a rainy Sunday. It’s a beautiful showcase of Ozelot’s power as a composer and producer, as well as a testament to what his latest release Late Night Cat Tunes 2 stands for.

The track is the definition of minimalism, and I use the word with the best intentions possible. The restraint that Ozelot demonstrates in “Demons on my back” works entirely in favor of the track and the atmosphere it invokes.

It’s a dark trip, but what a trip it is! There is a beautiful, tiny layer of a guitar lead that makes its way throughout the entire track, surrounded by walls of dense synths and groovy, laid-back drumming. The way it harmonizes and goes back and forth with the rest of the instruments and audio samples is nothing short of masterful. And it’s not because of technical prowess. On the contrary, the reason is the craftsmanship with which Ozelot employs scarcity to the track’s benefits.

In the end, “Demons on my back” is a great track to introduce you to Ozelot’s universe. Late Night Cat Tunes 2 is waiting for you to press play. You are in for a ride!
