Even when life gets busy and there is little to no time when it comes to reading about music, each week I try and book 15 to 20 minutes for Stephan Kunze's Zen Sounds newsletter. A source of wise words, inspiring creative writing, and music that challenges my taste, in the most beautiful way possible. I had the pleasure of having him as a guest on our Fox Tales podcast in 2023, an episode I highly recommend you check out.
The reason I start this feature with Stephan's name is because it was his latest How To Not Be a Music Snob newsletter that introduced me to the music and vast universe of New York-based synth/electronic trio Purelink. Akeem, Benjamin, and Tommy create what one could describe as a hypnotizing electronic journey, and while right now I'm spotlighting a specific track, the only way to enjoy their new album Faith, is to listen to the 38 minutes and 23 seconds without interruption. Ideally, while doing nothing else.
The song features fellow electronic producer Loraine James, whose soothing and near-spoken-word vocals serve as a guide light through the atmospheric acoustic-meets-electronic instrumental crafted by Purelink. Hopeful, yet eerie.
