Our friends at First Word have orchestrated a dream collab!
Excited to share with you a track from Ruby Wood's upcoming EP, No Rain, No Flowers, scheduled for release later this month. "This Thing Called Life" features flawless flow from Illa J and production work by Abstract Orchestra
The track follows the previous single “Someone" featuring Devin Tracy, which we diligently covered earlier this year. This time, the Yorkshire-based vocalist and songwriter ups the tempo and adds a scent of fresh hip hop-meets-soul positivity thanks to a wonderful and spot-on flow from Illa J. The track features production from Abstract Orchestra and incorporates R&B sumptuousness, catchy pop hooks, gospel-esque choirs, and innovative raps, guaranteeing it as a future classic.
"This Thing Called Life is a reflection on shared humanity. The song focuses on connection over division, reminding us that regardless of background or circumstances, we are all partaking in the same fragile experience," Ruby shared with us.
I appreciate the variety she's been delivering so far, and I bet the No Rain, No Flowers EP will be one to remember. Adding to our excitement list of 2026, that's for sure.
