Today, we get to spotlight one of Japan's fiercest contemporary forces. L.Y.P.S., the solo project of Ovall’s bassist Shingo Suzuki, lands on Tokyo’s alt-jazz scene with a smoky instrumental led by bluesy trumpet vibes. With a Fuji Rock 2025 slot locked in, let me tell you - the buzz is real. Besides being produced by Shingo Suzuki, the project is brought to life by a tight-knit quartet - pianist Shota Watanabe, drummer Masato Mori, and trumpeter Reiya Terakubo. Together, they form a piano trio with trumpet, crafting a laid-back yet emotionally charged groove that balances tradition with fresh, modern sensibilities.

I've known Shingo's work because of his collaborations with a lot of great artists we've featured, including Moka Only, Blu(rapper/US), and 20syl of Hocus Pocus. The Japanese bassist, keyboardist, and beatmaker dwells in the space where unique sampling crosses live instrumentation, often played by Shingo himself. Something that adds his unique flavour to all of his production.

"Green Eyes" feels like a homage to classic jazz, but it adds this contemporary, groovy scent that makes it feel as if you're effortlessly gliding through eras and emotions.
