“Hangnail” by US genre-bending collective Slug is a playful take on the little bumps that come with a life in motion.

"Minor setbacks and everyday irritations aren’t necessarily obstacles - they’re part of the story, and when you’re out there exploring, the scrapes along the way become proof that you’re actually living the adventure."

Built around a groovy rhythm, bumping bassline, and lively horn section, “Hangnail” moves through two shifting themes that keep the energy rolling forward while maintaining that sunny, groovy and uplifting energy.

The track is part of Slug’s new album The Gamble - a space-western-inspired journey through unfamiliar planets, cultures, and encounters. Across the record, the collective moves from bossa-inspired grooves and Afro-beat percussion to Spanish-tinged melodies and sample-driven boom bap, all tied together by a spirit of curiosity, confidence, and adventure.

The full album is a journey worth taking, so check it out during your next unwinding listening session.
