Exploring a modern take on artists like Cocteau Twins, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Smiths, and contemporaries like Sky Ferreira and early Lana del Rey, soft siren is LA-based dream pop trio created by Sidewalks and Skeletons, CASHFORGOLD, and Michael Coe (from Count The Clock).
As soon as I heard "Low", there was this weird thread of energy that charged through my body leaving a long-lasting goosebumps that persisted until the very last chord of the song. Effortlessly blending eerie ethereal melodies, melancholia and cinematic depth, the band's sound feels like a lucid dream where 90s shoegaze and trip-hop nostalgia meet the warm, hazy glow of 70s psychedelia.
As soon as I found this track I felt like in a trap, unable to move on with anything, simply because of the experience that "Low" gave me felt like a drug. Adding that slight grunge feel in the distorted guitar sound alongside all other inspirations felt like heaven.
“Low is a self-referential cry for help in a world where identity is increasingly constructed through the gaze of others and mediated by screens.”, the band elaborates.
"Low" will be part of soft siren's upcoming debut album, so certainly stay tuned for more.
