Theo Croker has shown us a different side of Theophilus London on their elegant new collaboration "Born Under (More) Punches".
Featuring artists like Miguel-Atwood Ferguson, Pachyman, and Bilal, BBE Music’s latest compilation Naive Melodies arrives as a soulful, star-studded showcase. One of my faverite moments from the project was experiencing Theophilus London's charasmatic vocals float over a nu jazz instrumental heavily influenced by African rhythms. On here, Theophilus is fierce and uplifting, and I loved how this is contrasted by the emotive cries of the trumpets. Towards the second half, the track becomes groovier and dreamier as the synths seep into the mix, wrapping around the rhythm section and giving the arrangement a hazy, immersive feel.
