What if we put together Tame Impala, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and Men I Trust in the studio for a weekend? Well, I am no Nostradamus, but I bet the answer will be very similar to what I'm about to share with you.
Union City Nights is the creative child of London-based singer/songwriter and guitarist Christian Veitch. A sonic destination where nostalgia-soaked textures and modern soul psychadelia collide. As soon as I stumbled upon "On Your Mind", I felt something enchanting and addictive about and I couldn't stop playing this on repeat. It reminded me of the hours spent alone in my room during those teenage years when we all felt the world's out to get us. Personally, I have fond memories and weirdly appreciating going through this kind of period.
Back to the off-kilter, yet irresistibly magnetic sound of Union City Nights. What I loved the most about the song was the love the tape-warped melodies drifting in and out of focus and the subtle lo-fi psychedelic soul grooves, which Christian has managed to bottle. Today's reason to love music. Bittersweet, yet catchy!
