Enjoy this weeks array of track and videos (sorry, guys, no "Hotline Bling" covers).
DIIV - "Bent (Roi's Song)"
DIIV's music is the sound equivalent of its member's signature clothing: a baggy worn-out sweater and shaggy hair. From the lazy vocals and deliberate out-of-tune melody to the oversimplified composition, DIIV has the whole i-can't-be-bothered attitude in check. "Bent" is the first single out of their upcoming sophomore album Is the Is Are that we are looking forward to. Or not, I mean, whatever.
Sia - "Alive"
I featured the track in a previous round-up, but the video is too adorable and kick-ass to miss. Featuring the real Karate Kid.
Arca - "Vanity"
Another "home video" by Arca and his boyfriend. His second album Mutant is to be released later this month.
Santigold - "Can’t Get Enough of Myself"
Santigold's work is not easily classified under one genre but is rather a concoction of indie pop, reggae, electro and disco. After her critically acclaimed (santigolden) second album, which included pop gems like "The Keepers", "Disparate Youth" and a collab with Karen O, she took a three-year-long sabbatical. The past week she announced an upcoming third album and released the humbly titled "Can’t Get Enough Of Myself".
Daniel Caesar - "Death & Taxes"
If Prince and D'Angelo had a baby, christened by John Mayer, he would probably quote Ben Franklin by saying that in life only death and taxes are certain.
Slowdive - "Avalyn" (Live 2014)
If you are a shoegaze fan, you couldn't have missed a band as essential as Slowdive. If you don't know what shoegaze means, this is a good place to start. In celebration of their first EP's 25th birthday, last week they released a live version of the iconic "Avalyn".
