I think it's great how "Mad World" simultaneously sounds like a dance floor banger and a film score in a manner that grips your attention all the way till the end.

It's certainly the strings which give off a dramatic sort of effect within the track, like something tragic is about to happen... Though the bass line and the drums lift our mood with their infectious bounce. There's also something to be said about the immaculate craftsmanship of the progression as the track gradually becomes better, especially since every couple of bars is laced with surprises. These charming bells enter the scene on a later stage and that was a key moment as the melodies within the climax were ridiculously catchy!
