First, there was the xx - a fresh new perspective on melodic electronica and a side of Jamie "xx" Smith, cleverly maneuvering between the deep and the approachable. Then, there were the collabs, followed by producing for Drake and Alicia Keys.
On June 1 Jamie XX released his first solo album In Color - album which was so hyped, people expected miracles. Some were disappointed, others immediately proclaimed it the best album of 2015. We reviewed a few of the tracks on it, including Jamie's joyfully nostalgic collaboration with the xx's Romy Madley-Croft. Yesterday "Loud Places" was performed on the French talk show Le Grand Journal by the whole xx team, making it their first on-stage performance in years. Stella Mozgawa (of Warpaint) on drums, and a French gospel choir helped make this an even more brilliant performance.
