Statistically Scandinavia is one of the best places to live. Apparently it is also a very good place to make music because some of the greatest indie, electro pop and electronic musicians in Europe come from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland. Just some examples: Björk, WhoMadeWho, The Knife, Fever Ray, Trentemøller, Kasper Bjørke, Little Dragon, FM Belfast, Peter Björn and John, Lacrosse, Kakkmaddafakka, Familjen, Karin Park, Susanne Sundfør, Röyksopp… and many, many others. (A-HA and ABBA are another story).

The most of these bands do not only make great music but amazing video clips as well. Mostly they are strange, sometimes even creepy but always very beautiful. Exactly such clips we have selected for our special Top 5 of the Best Scandinavian Videos. Watch and enjoy!

5. Niva – Dirty Water

We are starting with a video that is more or less representative for the Scandinavian video style – beautiful images, warm colors, a strange plot and a feeling of desolation. The video of the Stockholm based dj and singer Niva is about the thin line between reality and illusion and how sometimes just a little pill can change your whole world.

4. Röyksopp – What Else is Behind

We are continuing with a true Scandinavian classic – "What Else is Behind" by the veterans from Röyksopp featuring Karin Dreijer Andersson (The Knife, Fever Ray). The video is like a visual fairy tale with dark pagan motives that make you feel totally enchanted by  the beautiful vision.  A levitating blond woman, flying houses, apocalyptic storms and many other dream images that combined with the track and Andersson's great vocals create a unique audio-visual experience.

3. Peter, Björn and John – It Don’t Move Me

The next video is more than awkward and you will need a lot of time to decide if it’s funny or... just awkward. "It Don’t Move Me" by the Swedish trio Peter, Björn and John is a strange (and creepy) Flashdance inspired story about a teen dancer and his father who is obsessed of his son’s dancing skills as well of porcelain animals. The strangest thing in this video is the voyeur power ranger (or what-so-ever) who has some golden necklaces in his hand because… well, nobody knows why.

2. WhoMadeWho – Every minute alone

The next video is so great because of two things – first, it’s absolutely hilarious and second, because beyond its funny side it is very critical to Danish society. "Every Minute Alone" by the Danish band WhoMadeWho is about the hard life of Danes who have everything in their lives. Because rich and successful people also cry!

1. Casiokids – Det Hastar

And number 1 is… "Det Hastar" by the Norwegian band Casiokids. Director of the video is the great Kristoffer Borgli who has created some of the best music clips in Scandinavia in the last years. The plot of "Det Hastar" is about a plush sect... believe me, you cannot even image what people do with their plush toys. After you watch this video you will definitely look at your old teddy bear in a totally new way.  This video is just so strange and beautiful at the same time that it’s hard to describe it. Just watch and enjoy!
