I remember the first time I watched Dena’s ultimate hit "Cash, Diamond Rings, Swimming Pools". I couldn’t decide if I like it or hate it but one was for sure – Dena is the new Berlin hipster’s queen. And she proved it with her new video "Thin Rope". I really can’t imagine something more hipster – strange people dancing and jumping rope on the bridge of Warschauer Straße in Berlin while listening to the typical for Dena mix of electropop, r’n’b and rap.

The plot of the video is very simple – Dena and her cool friends are playing on the boxing machine next to a Turkish non-stop shop. Looking like homeless hipsters dancing on the street, some real homeless guys enjoying the attention, strange half-naked men with yellow helmets dancing like crazy – just an ordinary Friday night in Berlin. Then everybody starts to jump rope and it is such a party. Jumping rope is so cool. Really. Meanwhile Dena is singing and dancing staring right in the camera and you can’t decide if it looks totally fake or cool. Finally, you see her early in the morning in Görlitzer Prark (another cool/hipster/creepy place in Berlin) and she is still dancing, the party’s never over.

The video by Plamen Bontchev and Zoe Kahlert is perfectly matching to the song and Dena’s style. There are some really nice shots, good editing and camera but nothing special in general.

I really don’t know how Dena is doing it but there is something about her that makes you listen and watch her songs over and over again. Even if you don’t like the track and the video you will watch it again – it’s guaranteed.
