Based in uptown New York City, Dominican American producer Kansado is rooted in the hub of a flourishing afro-latin independent music scene. Coining phrases like “neo songo” and “guaguansoul”, Kansado fuses the rhythms of the Caribbean and Latin soul with the left field sensibilities of hip hop, neo soul, and lofi to create a musical language all his own. This exploration into future facing afro-Latin music can only be defined as where the clave meets the snare, and the congas meet the kicks. Kansado’s mantra: “Clave on the bottom, everything else on top.”

His musical influences span the experimental styles of Flying Lotus and Thundercat to the folkloric sounds of Dominican artists Vicente Garcia, Johnny Ventura, and Juan Luis Guerra. Kansado is part of a growing community of new wave latinx artists defining what it means to be “de aquí y de allá” – from both here and there.
