Today we celebrate Children of Zeus' highly anticipated third studio album, As The World Burns.... A behemoth of beautiful kaleidoscope experiences inspired by the sound of alt r&b, boom bap hip hop, jazz and soul.
While I overslept this morning, jumping on the record was one of the first things I did after making my first (and much-needed) cup of coffee. Manchester's legends of hip hop soul granted us 16 tracks that flow so beautifully together.
I decided to spotlight one of the new tracks that instantly got me grooving. "How It Used To Feel" perfectly balances the gentle vibe of modern soul with hard-hitting drum patterns and perfectly flowing stream-of-consciousness bars. There's a pleasant scent of the golden era of hip hop mixed with 2000s r&b on here. Absolutely floored by how good this is.
Shoutout to the collaborators, too. The features are few but hit hard, bringing in revered UK rapper Knucks, Colorado's Young Old Soul, [ K S R ], and Australian-Mauritian up-and-comer Anieszka on "Water & Vibes", which Lu covered last month.
