This week Leeds trio Dinosaur Pile-Up  released their sophomore album Nature Nurture, two years after the rather acclaimed debut Growing Pains. Initially I was planning to present another, more recent track out of the project, but listening to "Derail" in the last month for what seemed over a 1000 times, kind of changed my mind.
If you are not familiar with Dinosaur Pile-Up, that is not a typical track for the band. Their first album  was far grungier, louder and at way faster paste. "Derail" differs in melody, tune and vibe. A love song of destruction, it is not an angry, but a dark, more emotionally in-depth work. It is also very pop. Some might call this selling out, but to me it seems a lot more like the band has grown up musically and found their own sound, away from comparisons to Nirvana, The Vines and Foo Fighters.
Nervous guitars, dynamic drums and cool lyrics, this track made me a fan. You should also check out the a short, very Jennifer Lynch-like crime film that is the video for "Derail"
