Released in 2012, Bon Iver's self-titled second studio album has been an emotional blanket for millions worldwide. Myself included. It feels like a lifetime ago - a period where emotions were fueled by youth and often very polar. Finding this cover felt like a trip back in time, and I wanted to share it with you.
Jacob Montague is a producer and multi-instrumentalist by day, and a cinematic folk composer by night. His sound unfolds through a rich interplay of punchy beats, delicate plucked strings, minimalist motifs, and ethereal textures, bringing together seemingly contrasting elements into expansive, emotionally charged compositions. The result is an immersive musical landscape that feels both intimate and grandiose.
What a beautiful piece of music.
"I set out to make an instrumental cover of Bon Iver's Holocene and couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Bass Clarinet through a vocoder taking the melody feels like if Justin Vernon was an instrument to me," Jacob elaborates.
