Jazz, as a music genre, started in New Orleans (USA), originating from genres like blues and ragtime. The term stems from the word jasm, which back inthe 18th century was used as slang for "pep & energy". While the genre is sometimes difficult to define because it contains so many varied subgenres, there are a lot of common elements across those subgenres, like improvisation. Classic jazz artists include John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Lee Morgan, Herbie Hancock, and more.
Here at Stereofox, we predominantly focus on the contemporary jazz scene and genres that draw inspiration from jazz, like jazz hop, jazztronica, and jazz house.
