Marika Hackman has her own unique take on folk music. Often dark and brooding in nature, her latest EP Suger Blind channels all her introspection onto one beautiful pallet. The entire EP can be streamed in full here  ahead of its release on December 9th and is well worth a listen for any fans of The Magnetic North and Warpaint. But I digress, as today I've been listening to cover of Joanna Newman's track and EP closer, '81'.

Now, the original is a beautiful and haunting track in its own right (imagine something that would play over a creepy kids TV show in the 60's) and Marika's rendition breaths fresh life into the song, as well as exposing it to a wider audience that it may have otherwise passed by. With her breathy and engaging vocal style backed by bony guitars, it still manages to retain much of it's childlike innocence.
