Neo-soul vibes meet groovy drum breaks. This track is a culmination of those two things and I love the sound!
The track is titled "Valdosta", which is the name of a city in Georgia, USA, and I figure this is where the inspiration for it comes from. It's a small city that is known, among other things, for the growth of the plant azalea.
US-based producer SamTRax really nailed the vibe on this one. The drum break adds so much groove and live-feel with the snare rolls. It's a very subtle but efficient way to drive the listener and keep the drums interesting. Also, the hi-hat seems quite straight forward but the varying velocities give the track so much funk.
I'm a big fan of the combination of the horns and the pitch-bending synth in the high register. It sounds amazing and brings a nice feel to the chorus section.
