Get ready for uplifting synth solos, slick guitar melodies, and a whole lot of musical freedom with Snarez’s latest single, “Saviour”.
Snarez, aka Kostis Mougios, was born in Athens, raised in Amsterdam, and spent five years living in Japan before returning to his hometown, where he now runs a professional recording studio and has started a new chapter in his musical journey. He’s been involved in projects with several notable Japanese artists, including Nickleman, OilWorks, and Bigumaru, while also working with artists from Greece and the US.
His sound is shaped by a pretty wonderful musical upbringing. As an only child, Kostis was heavily influenced by his mother’s music selection and found himself exploring everything from jazz, soul, R&B, gypsy jazz, bebop, and fusion to death metal, black metal, hip-hop, and plenty more along the way. With so many different sounds in his head, he eventually reached a simple conclusion of playing whatever his heart desires and using any instrument that feels right for the idea.
These days, his music leans towards neo-soul, hip-hop, R&B, and related genres, while still drawing from that wonderfully eclectic background. And he likes to keep things as hands-on as possible, using real percussion, hardware synths and pianos, bass, guitar, mbira, chimes, and plenty of other instruments alongside virtual ones.
I don't know about you, but finding out a bit more about the artist behind the music makes me connect with their work so much more.
