I'm so enamoured by the new sonic direction Tropics has ventured towards after the release of his 2025 album Reality Fever, and it's beautiful to see that continue on his latest track with Sarah & Collin "Ache".
Right now, we're in an era where the UK-based producer, composer, and live musician Tropics delivers music with a towering, brooding presence. As sweet and soothing as the vocals are on "Ache", the soundscape and the delivery feel, ironically, pleasantly eerie and dejected. The pads hanging over the backdrop are heavy, and this is emphasized by the punchy rhythm section. This experience really comes to life when luminous synths enter the mix and sit beside the vocal harmonies, creating a beautiful contrast between melancholy and hope.
