AZ Chike has had his name on the lips of many over the past two years, and it seems like the release of his new album, No Rest For the Wicked, now has everyone turning heads.
The South Central Los Angeles native has established himself as a key figure in the new wave of West Coast hip-hop, and this was cemented when he surprised fans with a feature on Kendrick Lamar’s GNX album. One track that really stood out to me while I was listening through the new album was definitely "Sky Rockets". It's mellow charm and colorful synths, tastefully contrasted with the raw and punchy drums across the production. He complements this aesthetic with a confident yet nonchalant flow, adding another layer of cool to an already colourful and laid-back production. My favourite part is hands down the harmonies across the chorus as the track becomes uplifting and incredibly soulful as that section arises.
