Oh how buttery soft and sweet "Fell Short, Spun Round" is. This track by Felix Ames has been on repeat ever since its release earlier this April and I have finally decided not to gatekeep this goodness.

Felix Ames taught himself music theory and recording, which is hella impressive, and was strongly influenced by D'Angelo, Stevie Wonder and Maxwell. Honestly? He listens like a modern day D'Angelo and that is all I could ever ask for.

What makes Ames special is that he makes music the way other people journal: processing in real time, telling himself what he needs to hear. That rawness translates directly into his lyrics and he explored that at length in his debut album JENA. JENA was the process of digging out and making sense of his family, his grief, his romantic life, his sense of self. "Fell Short, Spun Round" is the first single off his upcoming album and if this is how he's opening that chapter, then I can't wait for what comes next.
