Yep, time for some old but gold #throwbackthursday, and what's better than a classic The XX song? If I can recall correctly, "Intro" was THE track that really got me hooked on the band. Oh man, their debut album (xx, 2009 - released via Young Turks) was just... you know, these "kids" who were about my age at that time (and still are, I guess) came out of nowhere, and suddenly everyone was just in love with the record. I always wonder how overwhelming such a response/success could be.
The album opener clocks in at a mere 2 minutes and 8 seconds, yet it has soundtracked the lives of countless millennials and their journey through the 2010s. Recorded and mixed at XL Studio, "Intro" was produced by Jamie xx, engineered by Rodaidh McDonald, and built around guitars from Romy Madley Croft and Baria Qureshi, and bass from Oliver Sim. As I said, at such a tender age, the (then) 4-piece did something truly unique. I believe this was one of those non-lyrical songs that converted many people of my generation to instrumental music.
Anyways, loving the tune, plus I always associated it with pleasant memories, and I'm pretty sure most of you do too.
