In today's music of genre syncretism so elaborate that universal labeling is virtually impossible, a mixture of indie and jazz is not a shocker. The tricky part is to escape the elitist trap, when combining two genres with a significantly snobbish reputation, while at the same time maintain their distinguishing substance and originality.

Adult Jazz manages to keep the balance by unassumingly diving into a rather experimental, intellectually-bound depth and bringing whatever they could find to a more inclusive surface. "Am Gone" vividly exhibits the Leeds-based quartet's tendency of stretching stylistic frames. The experimentation in composition and instrumental layers sound well-thought out and founded on extensive musical knowledge, which makes the whole Gist Is LP surprisingly mature for a debut.
