August 2019

Last week I shared with you Snoh Aalegra's new lovely full-length album - Ugh, Those Feels Again, and I did mention mid-August is a blast in terms of new projects.

The same day, Taylor McFerrin's Love's Last Chance dropped.

A 10-piece awesomeness, that's what I can call it.

You see, Taylor has been a great inspiration to me for the past few years - ever since I found "The Antidote" ft Nai Palm and his remix of Hiatus Kiyote's "Laputa", featuring Anderson .Paak, I've always gotten back to his music. Super unique, recognizable sound, outworldly beatwork & spacious vocals.

Love's Last Chance doesn't differ, when it comes to that. It's been 5 years since he released Early Riser (which took 6 years to complete) and the result is flawless. He usually prefers to express himself only in an instrumental way (except for "Florasia", where his voice makes it a pure neo-soul bliss), but here he's behind the mic in every vocal song, apart from, of course, producing it. Which makes the album a full, consistent story from start to finish - about the ephemeral moments in life and how we should try to preserve the good things for as long as we can.

Stay up to date.

"All I See Is You" & "Now That You Need Me" deliver the right fusion of synthesized soul & funk, while "Love and Distance" is nostalgic, melodic and lustrous.

The first track that features another artist comes mid-album. The beloved Anna Wise jumps in with silky vocals in "Memory Digital" - super smooth, sexy & with a groovy note. The keys breaks and the guitar create a melody that gets stuck in your brain. And you'll be humming it for days, I assure you.

The other guest appearence is from Elena Pinderhughes, who delivers a fairytale-ish flute work, making "As You Are" a truly magical upbeat track.

The last song, "So Cold in the Summer", feels like the perfect end to a lovely summer. Cosmic synths, playful guitars and vocals that are hard not to sing along with. Melancholia hits the last minute, reminding us that autumn is just around the corner.

I had a great time listening to the album. And I believe you'll too.
