It's been insanely good week when it comes to live shows and experimental electronica. After seeing Shigeto last Sat, today I had the pleasure to enjoy the fluid sounds of SEKUOIA and his live band.
If you have been around the page for the past few months, you have probably realized that the Danish producert has been a frequent addition to our JukeFox player and there's a pretty good reason for that. The 3 dudes put out absolutely flawless show and once again proved that electronic music + live instruments is the way to go. Adds so much more soul and feeling to the sound - it's beyond describable and it just has to be experienced on the spot. The perfect evidence for that - there were moments when the whole crowd in the Kantine was literally swinging left and right following their beats!
I have to say that the music I'm currently streaming and what I saw live today differ quite a lot. The live show felt even a bit post-rock inspired at times, but I'm not sure how to explain where this feeling is coming from. There were some pretty awesome build-ups and big up to the drummer, who despite the minimalistic setup (Roland SPD-SX pad, 18" Zildjian crash-ride, hi-hats and a snare) did pretty amazing things not only with the dynamics, but the overall beat progression and build-ups.
I'm not rly experienced when it comes to writing about live shows, but these guys are definitely worth seeing and I just wanted to put it out there. Glad to see such young bands who do something out of the ordinary and pushing the boundaries of today's electronic music. If you happen to be near any of their shows - drop by - you won't regret!
SEKUOIA is currently gearing up for his first full length album, so be sure there are a lot of updates coming up from the Danish artist. In case you enjoy what you've heard so far - dig more around the fox or just scout the music on the other social networks.
