April 2014

Many of us have this "story". That one time we heard that song at that place when we were doing that thing. Our first experience with good music is something that just sticks with us through the years and while we don't really get to celebrate those moments very often, there is this one day - Record Store Day!

record store day2014

Record Store Day was founded in 2007 when about 1000 independently owned record stores in the US, along with thousands of similar stores internationally, came together to appreciate the unique record store culture around the globe. On the third Saturday of April, everyone who is part of the world of record stores (the staff, customers and artists) unites to celebrate the special roles these independent record stores play in each of their local communities.

In a nutshell, I think the whole idea is to celebrate the soulful aspect of music itself.  It's an anniversary aiming to keep physical music alive.

Okay, so what can you expect on Record Store Day?

There will be performances and appearances from artists across the globe, meet and greets, special vinyl and CD releases, plus various promotional products made exclusively for that special day. T-shirts, posters, pins and all that jazz are few of the perks you can expect to get from your favorite local record stores... that is, if they participate in the initiative! How can you find more info? Just go here and look for the nearest event.

If that wasn't enough to convince you, just think of it as a way to broaden your music horizons, get rad new additions to your vinyl and CD collections and meet fellow music lovers. Happy Record Store Day!

Stay up to date.
