It's been ages since we've featured anything post-rock, but today it's time to space out for an hour with a live from Hypnodrone Ensemble's live at Berlin which I went to a few weeks back.

Some pre-story. A few weeks ago I start a new job and one of the first people to see in the new office was a guy with a This Will Destroy You t-shirt (the guy turned out to be Adam from the norotious German post-rock label/collective Oxide Tones). As it turns out, Blacklane is the company with the highest concentration of post-rock fans (judging by the amount of band t-shirts circling around every day). Anyhow, Adam (thx for the video) is the reason why I end up at this notorious post-drone-space-rock gig at a venue called Tiefgrund.

While the "official" inception of Hypnodrone Ensemble is somewhere around May 2014, the ambient/space-rock project is rooted way back in time and is tied to Aidan Baker (Nadja, Caudal) & Eric Quach's (thisquietarmy) friendship. Their journey to explore different sounds in the instrumental space is accompanied by Gareth Sweeney (bass), Felipe Salazar (drums), Jérémie Mortier (drums) and Dave Dunnett (drums). Yes, 3 drummers and yes, I was surprised as well. Out-of-this-world.

If you enjoy spaced out build-ups, drone-like guitars and even jazzy dynamics, these guys are a must-see live act. It's always great to see someone trying to break out of the ordinary structure and compositions... the evidence is in the video above.

Stay up to date.
