It is no surprise to you all that I am drawn to music that makes your heart heavy, the kind of music where certain notes and melodies involuntarily bring on emotions you didn't even know you had. Yes, I am a self-proclaimed sucker for melancholy and the ultimate depths music can take you to, and on that note, I have got a breathtaking song for you!

My song of the day/week/month/year (probably) is "Abusey Junction" by the London-based Afrobeat 7-Piece Kokoroko, which I have permanently had on repeat since I found it, and I am sure you will too.

This crooning ballad was written by guitarist Oscar Jerome on the roof of a compound in Gambia where the band took time last year to immerse themselves in the soundscapes of the region. It not only tells a story, but you actually feel the story, and it's depths, as it unfolds and it is heart-achingly beautiful.
