Berlin Brass Funk is what's on the menu today.

I first discovered the six-piece funk element Make A Move in late 2018 at Berlin's Badehaus Szimpla. Following the performance of Berlin electro soul duo Tanga Elektra, a whole horns section dressed as ballerinas with horns entered the stage. Not a bad start. But then, I noticed it was the drummer himself who was doing rapping. Quite an epic feat of coordination. After that, they had me sold.

As someone learning German, hearing Funk music in the German language seems to unravel its potential to be cheeky and poetic in this context. With a catchy chorus, "Welcome To My Office" runs through a story of being your own boss in your own office ... on the city streets. The band themselves met on the city streets busking, thus birthing the start of Make A Move. This track's portrayal of freedom on the streets over a day job with money and no soul hits home in a city of aspiring musicians. At least, this is what I've gathered. In any case, as I write this on my lunch break, I'm admittedly asking myself: "Alter, was geht ab?!"
