We're excited to play a part in Japanese keyboardist Yoshitaka Utano's brand-new solo artistic journey as UTone.
Known for his impeccable performances in Toshiki Soejima’s live band, as well as his piano tutorials on YouTube, Utano is now stepping into the spotlight to share more of his own compositions with the world. Today, we're sharing the first taste of this new chapter with "Emberlight" - a groovy jazzhop gem built around masterful piano melodies and improvisations, produced by our long-time label friend, Bulgarian producer and multi-instrumentalist TromBobby,
If you're into his sound (and I'm sure you are if you're here), there's more coming! "Emberlight" is the first single from UTone's debut body of work, Outset EP. Inspired by the craft of Robert Glasper, Matt Wilde, and J Dilla, it glides between jazz, jazz fusion, and instrumental hip-hop, while blending intricate yet easy-listening piano compositions, live-performed drums, subtle brass, and melodic basslines.
The project is united by the theme of new beginnings - the exciting first steps of UTone's new moniker and artistic identity. The tracks are simultaneously chill and playful, showcasing UTone’s undeniable musical skills.
Stream here and add it to your chill jazzy beats rotation.
