Rarely do I fall in love with a track, but Slowz's "When She Sleeps Pt. 1" hit me hard. I have literally played it on repeat for weeks.

Slowz is one of those beatmakers that stay in your mind for quite a while after you listen to their music. And even though I connect him mainly with melancholy, he has a lot more to offer.

And this gorgeous mini mix he crafted for us proves that. A super fresh summer electronic selection you can listen to while dreaming of the beach days that are yet to come.

We also got the chance to talk and you can read his pretty awesome interview below!

So, who is Slowz?

Slowz is a 22-year-old guy who’s living in the country side of Paris.

How did you pick up the tracks for this mix?

I’m digging music everyday. I’d already heard about Touch Sensitive but since I watched the documentary about Future Classic on Apple Music, I fell in love with this guy. I had to put two tracks from his last album in the mix. Basically, I wanted to make a danceable/summer mixtape.

How did you get involved with music in the first place?

I have not one thing that made me want to make music. It came thanks to my musical parents, to my brother and to my sister who were listening to their CDs everyday on their personal stereo. I was involved since my young age.

What drives you? What gets you excited and inspired?

Firstly, I would say, the love story I’m currently living with my girlfriend. That feeling when you know you are with that person is insane and it makes me happy. It gets me inspired everyday. I also would say the place. I’m not someone who is travelling a lot but, the morning, at my home is the best moment. I don’t need to be in the studio with 1000 equipments, with 10 people. Being alone, with my heart, head and keyboard gets me inspired too. I want to make a difference between influences and inspirations. So, of course, the songs I’m listening to everyday are a big big influence.

You really had me with "When She Sleeps". How did Nowhere EP happen? What's the story behind it?

Thanks! This EP was finished last year. I produced the tracks and asked to my guitarist and bassist to add their groove. So we finished it together. I love working with them because they are not in the electronic scene, they have a totally different mindset and definition of what’s music for them. They are artists. So, the name of this EP came from the idea of a place where my girlfriend and me are safe. I don’t know how to really define it but we all have a place where we feel safe. For us, we go Nowhere when we are sad, angry, when we feel lonely, etc.

We know a lot of amazing French beatmakers. What's so special in the French beat scene? Do you get influenced by anyone or try to differ?

For sure yes. The French scene is the most inspiring to me. And for me, we have the best of the world. Look, FKJ, Fakear... so simple guys. They are living their love story. Working with the people they love, touring when they are ready to. No pressure, healthy way of life, all those things inspired me. When I’m in love with an artist, I always want to know who he or she is "behind the scene". My main influence is from the Roche Musique label. They have a perfect image with the most talented people. I know I’m not creating a new genre, but I still want to differ yes, this is the key. Taking all your inspirations and your influences to make your own music.

What's your day like?

Waking up at 6 am, going to work for living. Back at home at 5 pm. I’m not doing what I love, but this is life. Unfortunately, I’m not doing music full time.

I know this is kind of a cliché, but what have you planned for the future? We're really eager to know!

You have no ideas! I’m trying to create music everyday. The next project is almost finished. Be prepared to hear a lot of original tracks from Slowz with many many good featuring guests. I also would love to work on a live show, one day.

Anything you'd like to add?

Thanks for the opportunity guys, still an honor to be interviewed by nice people.
